Did Jamie Foxx Spoil the Ending to ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′? Hints at Sinister Six

tasm-2-spider-man-jamie-foxx

Well, he kinda does, depending on how you choose to interpret what he said about the future of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise during a recent interview promoting White House Down. (Obviously, possible SPOILERS after this point!)

They actually talked about doing the Sinister Six, so, fingers crossed. Because electricity never dies, it just goes to a different place.

It’s probably pretty obvious that Spider-Man isn’t going to lose to Electro, and even though Foxx never outright says that’s the case, I think we can all agree Spidey is going to come out on top and somehow stop his supercharged foe. What’s even more interesting about this, though, is the mention of the Sinister Six. If the group of super villains were to form we would, most likely, see the return of Jamie Foxx as Electro, whether he’s defeated at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or not. If this does happen, it would be the first time the Sinister Six showed up on the big screen as a group, so that could be a major selling point for the third Amazing Spider-Man film.

Jackman Teases ‘Days’ as Last Outing as Wolverine

wolverine1

Days of Future Past is going to be an all-star X-Menpalooza, but one of Marvel’s Merry Mutants is now suggesting that his appearance in the upcoming X-film may be his swan song to the part that made him a movie star.

Yes ma’am (or sir), we’re talking about Hugh Jackman, and although he’s been very complimentary about the experience, the actor seems to be indicating that Days will be the last time he’ll play Wolverine.

It may be the last,” he said. “By the way, it didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows? Maybe.‘”

Although it’s been a 13-plus year odyssey, Jackman isn’t feeling much in the way of regret or remorse if this does indeed turn out to be the final time he slips into a pair of Adamantium claws. “I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on. I nicked everything off the set, so Halloween, come to me and I’ll hook you up.”

In the meantime though, Jackman continues to heap praise on Days of Future Past. “I keep saying it’s like two movies in one, but with the size of it it’s really three in one,” he added. “It really is going to blow people away because of the story.

Well, you can’t fault his enthusiasm. Wolverine was a difficult role to pull off, and Jackman did so with aplomb, and it will be a sad day when he leaves the role for good, and it will be very difficult for someone new to take up the part standing in Jackman’s shadow.

More news as it develops. Days of Future Past is in theaters next summer.

[UPDATED!] Expect Those ‘Star Wars’ Spinoffs to be Origin Stories – But Whose Origin?

sw

[UPDATED! The Hollywood Reporter is now confirming Disney’s and Lucasfilm’s plans to release one of these spinoff, origin films every other year, alternating with the release of Episodes VII, VIII, and IX. Our original story continues below.]

The acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney has brought about the final installment of the Star Wars saga, but wait, there’s more! It also means Disney, being the media powerhouse they are, isn’t only interested in Episode VII, VIII, and IX, but rather an entire new franchise of Star Wars films. We’ve been hearing rumors of Star Wars spinoffs ever since Disney consumed Lucasfilm like a smaller, feeble twin in the womb, but now they’re actually talking about them!

Disney CFO Jay Rasulo has described these spinoff to Variety as “origin story film[s],” and hinted these flicks would reveal how many of the saga’s most famous characters became so famous (or infamous).

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger earlier told CNBC,

Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga.

Obviously, we still don’t have any concrete details about what these spinoff, origin stories will be about. Rumors have continued to suggest they’d focus on characters such as Yoda, Han Solo, and Boba Fett. All good candidates, in my opinion, for a little more characterization and development. And with the plan still being to release a Star Wars movie every year, beginning with Episode VII in 2015, we’ll likely be hearing more solid news about the spinoffs sooner than later. Stay tuned!

DM Battles to Keep His Nerd Cred in ‘Zero Charisma’ Trailer

zero charisma

For those out of the loop, Zero Charisma is a new geek-centric film that focuses on the trials and tribulations of a Dungeon Master that begins to feel what little geek power he has slipping away when a new player arrives to challenge his hold over his players’ hearts and minds. Okay, that may be overstating it a little, but it does look to be a much better geek flick than most. Check out the trailer below and see what you think,

And, if you need more info, read the official movie description:

As the strict Game Master of a fantasy role-playing game, Scott (Sam Eidson) leads his friends in a weekly quest through mysterious lands from the safety of his grandmother’s kitchen. But his mastery of his own domain starts to slip-along with everything else in his life-when neo-nerd hipster Miles (Garrett Graham) joins the game, winning over the group with his confident charm and dethroning Scott with an unexpected coup. Caught in delusions of grandeur, Scott must roll the dice and risk everything to expose Miles as the fraud he believes him to be. A darkly comedic fable of epic proportions, Zero Charisma is an ode to nerds from every realm.

If that’s enough to convince you, then download the movie when it hits the digital market come October 8th. Or just wait around a few more days and see it at an actual theater on October 11th.

‘The Dark Knight Legacy’ – A Chance to See Nolan’s Story Continue

dark knight legacy

With the ending of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, many questions were left unanswered. And since they’re rebooting the Caped Crusader in 2015, those questions are not likely to be addressed anytime soon. So, to satisfy their own need for a continuation, some fans got together, led by director Brett Register, and put together this seven minute fan film that picks up a year after The Dark Knight Rises left off. Check out Nightwing, The Red Hood and a few other faces that you might recognize in The Dark Knight Legacy video below:

Shit, it’s not half-bad. Other than the decision to blow The Penguin away in short order, I’d have to say I’m quite impressed even. Want to see more? It’s a completely fan-funded project, so you can head over to indiegogo.com and help the guys who made this to continue the story by providing them some cash to keep their cast and crew fed.

New ‘Terminator’ is Delayed… One Week

terminator

Okay. So we know that Terminator, which is either the fifth film in the Terminator series or some combination of a continuation or reboot of the franchise, is currently in production under the combined auspices of Paramount Pictures, Skydance Productions, and Annapurna Pictures. We also know that the film is being written by Laeta Kalorgridis (Avatar, Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry), and that Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor is in some state of negotiation to get behind the camera for the project. Now there’s one more thing we know, it will now be released on July 1st, 2015 instead of June 26th, 2015.

So what does this buy the film in terms of calendar advantages? No one can say. As it stands now, Terminator will now open the same long weekend as Independence Day 2, which means that the two sci-fi titans will now go head-to-head on the July 4th long weekend in 2015. The previous release date would have given Terminator a couple of days to build momentum over ID4-2, so maybe Paramount and its partners want to make Fox, the studio behind ID4, blink and move their own expensive sequel out of the way in what is already a very crowded Summer 2015 playing field. So what’s the plan? Your guess is as good as there’s I bet.

More news as it develops.

Taylor to Move On From Thor to Terminator?

Thor-2_-alan-taylor

The scuttlebutt has been good for the upcoming sequel Thor: The Dark World, which suggests that director Alan Taylor was able to capitalize on the promise of the first film and potentially deliver something great. But can he do it again? Paramount Pictures and Annapurna Pictures are hoping so as Variety is reporting that Taylor has signed up to direct the next installment of the Terminator series, another franchise with potential, but one that needs even more help than Thor.

To recap the situation, Paramount and Annapurna are the latest companies to acquire the Terminator rights and try to launch a compelling film series that might capitalize on the two, original James Cameron-filmed Terminator movies. For a while it seemed that Fast & Furious filmmaker Justin Lin would get the job done, but out of a list that reportedly included Ang Lee, Rian Johnson and Denis Villeneuve, it seems that Taylor has emerged victorious.

But what sort of Terminator will Taylor make? There was a script by Laeta Kalorgridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) that, according to rumor, was about a terminator (to be played by Dwayne Johnson) who is sent back in time to the 1950s to kill Sarah Connor’s parents, and the Good Samaritan (to be by played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) who comes to their aid. It’s unknown how true that rumor is, but Taylor could either proceed with that story (if it is true), or throw out any current script development and start again from scratch.

Along with Thor: The Dark World, Taylor has directed the films Palookaville, The Emperor’s New Clothes and Kill the Poor, along with several episodes of Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Mad Men and Homicide: Life on the Street.

What do you Bastards think? Excited to see what Taylor can do with Terminator? Are you even excited about another Terminator movie at all? Sound off below.

Jose Padilha’s ‘Robocop’ Reboot Trailer Hits the Internet

hi res robocop reboot 656

The first trailer for director Jose Padilha‘s reboot of the much beloved Robocop franchise has finally hit the Internet, now we just need to see how hard the Internet hits back. I’m truly conflicted when it comes to rebooting the Robocop franchise, the first movie has always been a favorite of mine. Will it stay true to the roots of the character or just change everything? If it does change significant aspects, will it still be good or just another mess like Total Recall?

The cast looks great on paper, in fact it blows away a point by point comparison with the original cast. The only questionable casting is the lead Joel Kinnaman. I just don’t know his work well enough to have confidence in his carrying this movie. The rest of this cast is a slam dunk, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman is a grouping that inspires confidence and trust. How Padilha puts it all together could be the tipping factor.

Take a look at the trailer and then let’s talk about what we’ve just seen.

Hmm, I find myself liking the look of the sets and effects shown so far. Oldman’s line about “the illusion of freewill” is an interesting take that I look forward to seeing more about. It looks like in this version the wife is the one that makes the decision to allow the OmniCorp to put Murphy into the Robocop program. Will Murphy know about his family at that point or have to discover it like the original.

Seeing Jackie Earle Haley toward the end was great. His role as Maddox should be fantastic, I’ve always loved his work.

Well, what did you think? Are you more open to this reboot or did this trailer just set your disillusions in concrete? Will this movie do better than Dredd?

Robocop hits the big screen on February 7th.
