Pink Sweets ~Ibara Sorekara~: Meidi Rose

unknown cosplay 59 from comiket 2010 - pink sweets ~ibara sorekara~ cosplay - meidi rose

As it comes with any convention, there will be several unknown cosplays featured in Cosplay Holic thanks to Japan’s Comiket 2010. And these are the times when I wish I was more up-to-date with the latest anime, manga, and games.

For this, I was thinking of fanmade vocaloids for some reason. Maybe it’s the hair (or in this case, the wig) or the thigh high socks but that’s the first thing that came to mind.

Please leave comments if you have any idea which character she might be. Thanks to Dellia for sending this in!

EDIT: Thanks to anon for letting me know this is Meidi Rose from Pink Sweets ~Ibara Sorekara~! Unknown Entry 060

unknown cosplay 060 from comiket 2010

There are probably a lot of French Maids in Comiket 2010. This is one of the many cute designs I’ve come across.

She somehow reminds me of 2k-tan, one of the personified Operating Systems aka OS-Tan. But I remember Windows ME to be the one who wears maid outfits, so I’m not certain. She could be a random otaku who likes wearing cute dresses, I suppose.

I really like her outfit though. And her shoes.

Thanks to Femi for sending this!

Baka to Test to Shokanju: Kirishima Shoko

unknown cosplay 63 from comiket 2010 - baka to test to shokanju cosplay - kirishima shoko

I’m beginning to wish school girl cosplays had IDs to go with them.

Just who is this purple haired bishoujo with the black and red uniform? Knowing who the cosplayer is would almost be mission impossible as it goes with these large conventions, but hopefully someone will comment and reveal which character she’s cosplaying as.

Thanks to Sammie for sending this!

EDIT: Thanks to Reryu for commenting about which series this is from! I was able to do a bit of research and found she is Kirishima Shoko from Baka to Test to Shokanju! Thanks again, Reryu!

THE iDOLM@STER: Kisaragi Chihaya

unknown cosplay 064 from comiket 2010 / the idolmaster cosplay - kisaragi chihaya

See what I mean about school girl uniforms? This is the second unknown cosplay today, and I’m still as clueless as I was this morning!

I actually thought she was from Full Metal Panic! or maybe even Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu because of the overall color scheme. Now I’m not so sure because I think their uniforms had a red bow instead of the green tie she’s wearing.

I think her shoes are really cute though. Thanks to again to Viki for the contribution!

EDIT: Thanks to Princess Soup for confirming that she’s Kisaragi Chihaya from THE iDOLM@STER!

First Clip from ‘Beware The Batman’ is Awesome Design-Wise – Not so Much Story-Wise

Our first glimpse at a clip of Beware the Batman beyond the opening sequence gives us a really good idea of the look and feel of the series, but leaves much to be desired story-wise.

There’s a really edgy, bold look to the artwork for this and it looks awesome. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and hope this scene is better when viewed within the episode as a whole when it premieres tomorrow.

Hit the jump to see for yourself.

Beware the Batman premieres tomorrow morning, July 13, on DC Nation. Do you think this will become one of your Saturday morning cartoons?

Marvel Movie Teasing with ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Captain America 2′ Concept Art & Peggy Carter Spin-Off

With Marvel‘s cinematic universe officially in Phase 2 we have a full slate of movies from the house of ideas to look forward to and apparently, Entertainment Weekly is all up in it, pictures wise. Coming up we’ve got some teasey/spoilery images from the magazine’s Comic-Con preview for you to drool and speculate over.

Let’s start with some concept art of Captain America and his BFF, Bucky.

See, that’s a spoiler (to people who don’t know commonly known things). Steve “Captain America” Rogers and his former sidekick, James “Bucky” Barnes turn from friends to enemies and, with any luck frienemies by the end, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The above concept art by Ryan Meinerding (same guy that did the Iron Man 3 reveal last Comic Con) teases what we can assume is one of many clashes between the two. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is due in theaters April 4, 2014.

Remember Peggy Carter from the first Captain America movie? Well get ready for more. Hayley Atwell returns for the next Marvel short film, packaged with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray that drops in September. Picking up shortly after Cap is flash frozen and assumed lost, the flick will feature the femme fatale carving out her own space in the male dominated world of 1940 s super-spies. Three more pictures and a synopsis by Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito follow.

It’s a year since Cap plunged into the ocean. And in our mind, we said there’s a few SSR offices. If you want to relate it to now, it’s like the OSS, the precursor to the CIA. The SSR is the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D. There’s some satellite offices in New York and right now their primary concern is getting Zodiac … Zodiac in the books has been many many different things. We just want you to know it’s deadly, it’s important, bad guys are guarding it, and it’s imperative she gets it.

Lastly, a quick little round up of some concept work for promotional material for our next trip to Asgard in Thor: The Dark World. Yes, Kevin Feige more or less has confirmed that the sequel will take place in the realm on the planet of the Norse gods aliens. “We see the street-level view, the nooks and crannies of house people actually live there real people and not just golden superbeings.”

One Week and Counting… SDCC Tips

[Editors Note: Shawn wrote for us the unmissable How to Pack for SDCC, And How to Survive Once You’re There (seriously, if you’re attending San Diego Comic Con you’ll want to read up on his very, very helpful packing, prep, and survival tips) and as we’re now less than a week away from the con of cons Shawn’s back to share with you his last minute advice. Like, don’t forget your deodorant! Ugh, just once I’d like to attend a con and not get punched in the face with horrible B.O.]

With one week to go until San Diego Comic Con, here are a few items you should be doing right now:

Search Twitter for events requiring an RSVP

Lots of companies, studios and vendors are announcing their parties and events via Twitter. You can lock in your spot by RSVP’ing in advance.

Note – get there early, even if you RSVP. Most events overbook and will have a line around the building of people who have no shot of getting in.

Get Your Artist/Writer Questions Answered Before You Get To SDCC

If you have a favorite writer/artist that are on Twitter, Facebook, etc. hit them up now! Many artists aim to fill the slots on their sketch list before the con even starts. Don’t get left out because you procrastinated. Find out where your favorite writer will be signing or sitting on a panel. Not everything is published on the SDCC website.

Make Your Exclusives Shopping List

If there are exclusive toys or collectibles that you’re aiming to purchase, make a list, prioritize the items you’re after and note where/when to line up for each. Apparently it’s going to be a free for all at the Marvel booth for their very limited items, so you might want to put that “Coulson Lives” t-shirt towards the top of your list!

Be Sure Your Luggage Has Space For Swag (Or Plan On Hitting San Diego Post Office!)

See the packing tips in How to Pack for SDCC, And How to Survive Once You’re There, and be sure to stay within your airline’s weight limits.

If you do want to mail things home, the closest post office to the convention center is located at 51 Horton Plaza (the corner of 1st Avenue and G Street, open M-F 9:30-6PM, Sat 10-5PM)

Get Sleep, Eat Well, Take Your Vitamins!

The last thing you want is to be run down or sick before you even make it to Preview Night. You won’t sleep much once the con starts (if you’re doing it right!), so get that rest NOW.

San Diego Comic Con runs July 17th through the 21st. Keep it tuned to Nerd Bastards for all the SDCC coverage worth your time to read!

Lionsgate Responds to ‘Ender’s Game’ Boycott With a Statement and LGBT Fundraiser

Earlier this year science-fiction fans were elated to see the first footage from Ender’s Game, and now it’s like nobody wants to go near it. Due to the views on same-sex relationships and gay rights from Ender’s Game author, Orson Scott Card, the film has become a public relations disaster, with many fans looking to boycott the film. In the eyes of Lionsgate that is the kiss of death for their hopes of a future franchise hit.

In order to try to quell the fire Orson released a statement requesting we show tolerance to his intolerance, which only increased the call for more boycotts. For a multi-million dollar production like Ender’s Game that spells disaster and Lionsgate, the parent company of Summit Entertainment, have had enough of the controversy. Looking to distance themselves from the views of Card and referencing their own beliefs towards the LGBT community, the studio has released a statement of their very own.

How it will be received remains to be seen, but here’s a look at the full statement via Deadline:

As proud longtime supporters of the LGBT community, champions of films ranging from Gods and Monsters to The Perks of Being a Wallflower and a company that is proud to have recognized same-sex unions and domestic partnerships within its employee benefits policies for many years, we obviously do not agree with the personal views of Orson Scott Card and those of the National Organization for Marriage. However, they are completely irrelevant to a discussion of Ender’s Game. The simple fact is that neither the underlying book nor the film itself reflect these views in any way, shape or form. On the contrary, the film not only transports viewers to an entertaining and action-filled world, but it does so with positive and inspiring characters who ultimately deliver an ennobling and life-affirming message. Lionsgate will continue its longstanding commitment to the LGBT community by exploring new ways we can support LGBT causes and, as part of this ongoing process, will host a benefit premiere for Ender’s Game.

How does this make you feel? Will a future fundraiser in the form of a benefit premiere for the LGBT community help or hinder Lionsgate’s promotion of Ender’s Game? Should something more be done about Orson?

Ender’s Game is in theaters everywhere November 1st.

Kevin Smith Goes Behinds the Scenes On ‘The Walking Dead’; Talks to Norman Reedus About Crossbows

I would like to say this is a candid video, just two dudes who ran into each other on a back lot and started talking about killing zombies. I said I’d like to, in reality it looks like AMC is using former movie maker, now hockey jersey model Kevin Smith as the promotional juggernaut for the forthcoming fourth season of The Walking Dead.

Smith hosts two (in what appears to be of many) behind the scenes videos, the first one centers on Norman Reedus and his characters weapon of choice.

Next, Smith talks with Lauren Cohan about her weapon of choice… the power of love! Ok, really it’s about her marriage to Glenn at the end of season 3, but still love is a powerful weapon.

And speaking of Glenn and Maggie, EW just posted a pic from a season 4 promotional shoot featuring Cohan and Steven Yeun practicing CPR, a valuable skill in a zombie apocalypse I am sure we can all agree.

“It’s in a really safe place, they’re in a good groove, living as close to what normal life should be,” says Yeun. “Whatever you can call that in this world.”

Is it bad that part of me wanted zombies to rush Smith and Reedus in the first clip, forcing Reedus to give Smith a good old fashioned Otis to the knee? Nothing personal against Kevin Smith, I just think it would have punched the scene up a little.

The Walking Dead returns to TV October 13th.

New ‘Catching Fire’ Trailer Coming Saturday; Check out the Tributes’ Wetsuits in New Character Posters

Returning triumphantly to San Diego this weekend will be The Hunger Games‘ second installment, Catching Fire. They’re already scheduled for a panel in Hall H on Saturday at 1:35pm PST, and today Yahoo has revealed what we can expect from the panel. For one, we’ll definitely be getting a new trailer, which is precisely what we’ve come to expect from any film presenting at Comic Con with a release date this year. The good news is, those of us not at Comic Con will get to see the trailer once it’s released online during the Hall H panel. Hooray, no wait! So make sure you’re here Saturday around 2:oopm PST/5:00pm EST when the new Catching Fire trailer goes live. Oh, and there’s this new pic, seen above. Hmm, for Hunger Game champions both Katniss and Peeta look pretty dour, huh?

In addition to the new trailer, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Lenny Kravitz, Willow Shields, Jeffrey Wright and director Francis Lawrence will all be in attendance. Get your questions about Peeniss ready now. What? That’s the official ship name of the Peeta/Katniss relationship. I’m serious! Look it up.

There’s also been a string of character posters released featuring all of the tributes of the Quarter Quell – think Hunger Games: All-Stars – in their sleek wetsuits. Why the wetsuits? Remember how last film the Games were held in a forest arena? This time it’s a more tropical arena, and it’s infinitely more awesome, and more deadly.

Hit the jump to check out the posters!

Thanks to MSN, Empire, MTV, Moviefone and The LA Times for the poster hook-up.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire releases later this year on November 22nd.
