Elizabeth Olsen is the Latest Rumored Actress for Scarlet Witch in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Since the announcement at San Diego Comic Con which unveiled the official title for The Avengers‘ sequel as The Avengers: Age of Ultron, there hasn’t been much else in the way of news. As far as we know Joss Whedon is still toiling away with the script, adding his finishing touches, and perhaps, beginning to think about casting all these new characters he’s introducing. The most high profile of which are Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, the Maximoff twins, mutants, and offspring of Magneto.

Of course, any mention of them being mutants or the children of Magneto is right out as the tenuous relationship between Disney/Marvel Studios and FOX over the screen rights to Marvel characters won’t allow it.

The first name attached to the role of Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch, was the Irish actress, Saoirse Ronan. Bleeding Cool is now reporting she’s passed on the role (even though it’s questionable she was ever offered it in the first place). Next in line? Elizabeth Olsen.

Making a name for herself on the festival circuit with films like Martha Marcy May Marlene and Silent House, Olsen is the actress now being touted as Whedon’s Scarlet Witch by those always informative unnamed sources. She’s just wrapped on Gareth Edward’s Godzilla and is appearing in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, releasing on November 27th, giving us plenty of opportunities to scope out this potential Avenger were she to be cast.

Bleeding Cool also mentions whomever lands the role will be asked to adopt a “European” accent. And isn’t that just sooooo American. For one, not looking to cast someone from Eastern Europe in the role, and two, assuming “European” is a good enough classifier for a foreign accent. Sigh. It’s no better than baddies always sounding Russian while being playing by English actors.

Anyway, what do you think of Olsen as a choice for Scarlet Witch?
