Jackman Teases ‘Days’ as Last Outing as Wolverine

Days of Future Past is going to be an all-star X-Menpalooza, but one of Marvel’s Merry Mutants is now suggesting that his appearance in the upcoming X-film may be his swan song to the part that made him a movie star.

Yes ma’am (or sir), we’re talking about Hugh Jackman, and although he’s been very complimentary about the experience, the actor seems to be indicating that Days will be the last time he’ll play Wolverine.

It may be the last,” he said. “By the way, it didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows? Maybe.‘”

Although it’s been a 13-plus year odyssey, Jackman isn’t feeling much in the way of regret or remorse if this does indeed turn out to be the final time he slips into a pair of Adamantium claws. “I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on. I nicked everything off the set, so Halloween, come to me and I’ll hook you up.”

In the meantime though, Jackman continues to heap praise on Days of Future Past. “I keep saying it’s like two movies in one, but with the size of it it’s really three in one,” he added. “It really is going to blow people away because of the story.

Well, you can’t fault his enthusiasm. Wolverine was a difficult role to pull off, and Jackman did so with aplomb, and it will be a sad day when he leaves the role for good, and it will be very difficult for someone new to take up the part standing in Jackman’s shadow.

More news as it develops. Days of Future Past is in theaters next summer.

How Useful Is Wolverine Anyway? ‘The Pete Holmes Show’ Knows.

Wolverine Gets Fired By Pete Holmes in sketch for The Pete Holmes Show on TBS

We’ve been featuring comedian Pete Holmes’ sketches here for quite awhile. We did a round-up of his Batman parodies, and we enjoyed the one featuring Patton Oswalt and Holmes’ response to Ben Affleck as Batman in Good Will Batman. Now he’s branching out of Batman territory and stating what some of us have always thought about Wolverine: how useful are his powers to the X-Men, really?

Pete Holmes stars as Professor X in this sketch which debuted at New York Comic-Con and is now finally online. It has better CGI on the claws than the ones in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The dialogue is a huge improvement, too.

“Where did I come from, though?”

“No, you’re not hearing me. No one gives a hot sh-t.”

“But where did I come from?”

These “Ex-Men” segments will be a recurring sketch on The Pete Holmes Show, on TBS after Conan starting October 28th. Hopefully they’ll finally answer the question that has so far been left unanswered. Harvey Dent. Can we trust him?

Is Apocalypse Part of the Bigger Picture for ‘X-Men’ Movies?

It’s probably the worst kept secret, or at least one of them, that 20th Century Fox wants to create a similar shared universe feel for all their Marvel Comics properties as Marvel Studios has for theirs. Consider the sudden appearance of Thanos at the end of The Avengers, which will be followed up in next summer’s Guardians of the Galaxy, thus creating a universe-spanning bad guy for a universe-spanning series of films.

So the question becomes, can Fox do something similar, and if so, who could they do it with? How about Apocalypse, the mutant despot who’s thousands of years old and obsessed with his survival of the fittest mentality. If any of this sounds familiar, it’s because X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer was once questioned on the subject of Apocalypse appearing in that film and got pretty cryptic pretty quick when an interviewer got too close.

“I can’t tell you…” he said before clamming up. “This is how it gets started, when somebody starts piecing the little bits together….”

Adding fuel to that fire now is a website called Unleash The Fanboy, which quoted an unnamed Fox source in regards to any future appearance by Apocalypse in Days of Future Past or any other X-Men movie. Here’s the exchange:

This is what she said:
“He’s definitely a big part of Fox’s whole plan for a big X-Men universe with spin-off movies. The Avengers really is the template here”

Will he show up in Days Of Future Past?
“I won’t say too much about that. You’ll just have to wait and see”

“Want and see.” Which is exactly what your mom says when you ask her if you’re going to get a specific toy for Christmas. So can we take this to mean that Apocalypse will appear in someway shape or form in Days? We’ll see.

More news as it develops. X-Men: Days of Future Past comes out next summer.

Bryan Singer Tweets a New ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Teaser

A couple of weeks ago, Bryan Singer announced the addition of Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver (Evan Peters), to the mix in his upcoming movie X:Men: Days of Future Past. Fans were quick to wonder if Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch, would also appear. Now this latest tweet from Singer may not be a rock solid announcement, but it does clearly open the possibility that Wanda will make an appearance.

Kinda reminds me of this shot in X-Men: Last Stand,

What do you think? I expect we’ll at least get a glimpse of young Wanda, perhaps only in a framed photo on the wall or table when we get a look in the Maximoff home.

Bryan Singer Tweets ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Set Pic and Teases Comic-Con Appearance

Bryan Singer likes to tweet and we’re all the better for it. This time Singer gives us an inside look at the construction of a familiar X-Men set to be used in X-Men: Days of Future Past while teasing us a bit about Comic-Con.

It’s a pretty safe bet it’s the entrance way to Cerebro, the device created to find other mutants by Professor X and created in the movies by the Beast, Hank McCoy.

Singer also included this question in his tweet:

Funny guy, but it won’t be that long until Comic-Con and we can expect some big doings by the X-Men: Days of Future Past production team and actors. I’m betting on a huge panel of celebrities.

What new stuff are you excited to find out about at this years Comic-Con?

Prepare for the Sentinels! Mark Millar Talks ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ & Teases ‘Kick-Ass 3′

Today Mark Millar, who’s been working as a creative consultant for Fox‘s Marvel properties, chatted with about X-Men: Days of Future Past and he’s got news that’s really going to please fans. One word: SENTINELS. Readers of the source material know the giant, robotic, brute squad play an integral part in the time-traveling storyline,

I don’t really want to give too much away but the Sentinels are a big feature of this story. They will be cool and this will deliver on all of the teasers. We’ve all been waiting for this ever since X-Men: The Last Stand showed us one of their heads. Now it is finally coming, and we only have to pay ten quid to see it in the cinema.

Sound awesome, except for The Last Stand reference, please don’t make me relive that nightmare. Millar also praises the script and director Bryan Singer‘s handling of the rather large cast,

Singer is excellent at working with ensemble casts. So with this one I feel it is all fine. I have read the screenplay and it doesn’t feel rushed and it doesn’t feel like it is too many characters.

I think the best comparison I can give is to Star Trek – that is an ensemble but it never feels as if there is not enough time with any one character. Or maybe Lost – that is an ensemble but every character gets their own moment to shine. So as long as everyone is there for a reason there doesn’t need to be a problem with so many characters. This is a beautifully structured film, and it is a time travel story so the structure has to be especially strong.

Of the returning cast members, and by that I mean those who didn’t appear in First Class, Ellen Page will have a large and important role to play. No specifics from Millar but he promises, “Kitty Pride fans will not be disappointed.” I’m a fan of Kitty, and more a fan of Page’s now than I was when she was Kitty, so I’m mixed on this. What do you think of Page reprising the role and having a bigger presence?

In addition to all the Days of Future Past chatter, Millar had some news on a proposed Kick-Ass 3,

Kick-Ass 3 is going to be the last one though. I told Universal this and they asked me, ‘What does that mean?’ I said, ‘It means that this is where it all ends.’ They said, ‘Do they all die at the end?’ I said, ‘Maybe’ – because this is a realistic superhero story. And if someone doesn’t have a bullet proof vest like Superman and doesn’t have Batman’s millions then eventually he is going turn around the wrong corner and get his head kicked in or get shot in the face [laughs]. So Kick-Ass needs to reflect that. There has to be something dramatic at the end, he cannot do this for the rest of his life.

Keep in mind Kick-Ass 3, the comic, hasn’t come out so what’ll be covered in the threequel is really up in the air. And I’d like to point out it’d be Batman wearing the bullet proof vest, not Superman. Unless Millar mispoke and meant to say bullet proof chest, that’d be more accurate.

Anyway, does the opportunity to see the Sentinels wreaking havoc on the big screen send you into a tizzy? Are you worried Days of Future Past will falter with too many freakin’ mutants like some X-Men films have before it? Kick-Ass 3, too soon to think about?

Kick-Ass 2 releases this year on June 28 and X-Men: Days of Future Past follows next year, July 18, 2014.

Patrick Stewart Teases His Return to the ‘X-Men’ Franchise

Actor Sir Patrick Stewart is most recognized for playing the best captain in Star Trek (he is the best, don’t try to argue) and teaching mutants how to behave accordingly as Professor X in X-Men. In regards to the latter, it was thought that X-Men The Last Stand was the last time we’d see him play the telepathic mutant; considering the characters unfortunate demise in the middle of the film.

Well, a news report from Newsarama is saying he will return to the wheelchair once again in a future X-Men movie.

At this year’s Montreal Comic Convention, a fan asked Stewart about his chances of returning to the film franchise to which he replied, “I think there is every possibility,” and then began to say the names of his female co-stars, “Halle Berry! Famke Janssen! Rebecca Stamos! Anna Paquin!” All these leading ladies have returned to reprise their roles in the X-men film franchise, Stewart went on to say, “Yes, I’ll be reprising…”

There’s no word yet on whether or not Stewart was making an official announcement or he had just gotten away with the best fan trolling of the year. It may have been his way of saying he’ll make a return in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but that’ll have to wait until some kind of official statement is released.
