‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Casting – Welcome Agent Melinda May

One of the most highly anticipated television series of the near future, Joss Whedon’s latest project, S.H.I.E.L.D. is making some more progress in the pre-production process. By now, everyone knows that Clark Gregg (AKA Agent Coulson) will be back from the dead in typical Marvel fashion, but so far no other word on casting is available. Until now, that is.

The first non-dead person to join the cast will be Ming-Na Wen (Eureka, Stargate Universe). She will be playing a character by the name of Agent Melinda May, who Deadline describes as:

Soulful and slightly damaged by her combat experiences, Melinda is an ace pilot, a weapons expert and a soldier who can – and has – gone beyond the call of duty.

Ming-Na already has a r sum that reads like a geek’s wet dream, being involved in many great projects, both live-action and in a voice only capacity. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing her take on this next role, especially if they’re giving her the lead.

No word yet on when to expect Whedon’s baby to air, but keep checking in with the Nerdbastards for more casting updates until then. Now, if I could just get over that whole deus ex machina Coulson thing, I may be able to enjoy S.H.I.E.L.D. once it finally does reach TV screens.

Thanks to ComicBookMovie for the heads-up.
