Taylor to Move On From Thor to Terminator?

Thor-2_-alan-taylor

The scuttlebutt has been good for the upcoming sequel Thor: The Dark World, which suggests that director Alan Taylor was able to capitalize on the promise of the first film and potentially deliver something great. But can he do it again? Paramount Pictures and Annapurna Pictures are hoping so as Variety is reporting that Taylor has signed up to direct the next installment of the Terminator series, another franchise with potential, but one that needs even more help than Thor.

To recap the situation, Paramount and Annapurna are the latest companies to acquire the Terminator rights and try to launch a compelling film series that might capitalize on the two, original James Cameron-filmed Terminator movies. For a while it seemed that Fast & Furious filmmaker Justin Lin would get the job done, but out of a list that reportedly included Ang Lee, Rian Johnson and Denis Villeneuve, it seems that Taylor has emerged victorious.

But what sort of Terminator will Taylor make? There was a script by Laeta Kalorgridis (Shutter Island) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) that, according to rumor, was about a terminator (to be played by Dwayne Johnson) who is sent back in time to the 1950s to kill Sarah Connor’s parents, and the Good Samaritan (to be by played by Arnold Schwarzenegger) who comes to their aid. It’s unknown how true that rumor is, but Taylor could either proceed with that story (if it is true), or throw out any current script development and start again from scratch.

Along with Thor: The Dark World, Taylor has directed the films Palookaville, The Emperor’s New Clothes and Kill the Poor, along with several episodes of Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Mad Men and Homicide: Life on the Street.

What do you Bastards think? Excited to see what Taylor can do with Terminator? Are you even excited about another Terminator movie at all? Sound off below.

New Photo Spread For ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Has Tons of Pics

thor

Empire has a new spread on Thor: The Dark World featuring some beautiful images from the film. Directed by the talented Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Sopranos, Hell, this guy has directed episodes of some of my favorite television series, way to many to name), Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Kat Dennings, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson and newcomers Christopher Eccleston (Malekith), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Algrim) and Zachary Levi (Fandral).

The Empire spread, as always, has some interesting quotes about the movie:

“You know, we are killing Asgardians in this movie,” says director Alan Taylor inside. “It turns out immortality isn’t all that it was cracked up to be.”

Explains producer Craig Kyle, “Asgard at the beginning of the first film was at a time of peace. Now our guys have been fighting for over a year, constantly. It’s a time of war.

“When the Bifrost was broken at the end of the first film, Odin had to conjure a lot of dark energy and go through a lot of personal sacrifice to try and get his son back to Earth. And it was a one-shot deal. If Thor didn’t succeed, without the Tesseract he couldn’t have got back again. And in our film, finally the Bifrost has been rebuilt, but during that time, when the cops were largely cut off from the rest of the universe, you had miscreants that came in from outside the Nine Realms, pillaging and destroying and causing havoc. So that’s what our guys have been doing now – trying to put all these fires out across the Nine Realms.”

Sounds like there is trouble in paradise for the Asgardians. This time around there should be plenty of action. My only question about the pictures is, “Who is that rocky headed guy Thor is laughing with or at?”

All New ‘Thor: The Dark World’ Trailer is Here!

thor

With just about two months until the November 8th premiere of Marvel StudiosThor: The Dark World we should see a lot more clips, interviews, and other production treats soon. Let’s start the whole thing off with a new trailer! It’s got everything we’ve been waiting for as the $h!ts about to hit the fan in good old Asgard as those dastardly Dark Elves do Malekith’s dirty deeds.

Everyone is back for this sequel, Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsg rd, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi ( The new Fandral), Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

I’ve got to say that IMHO and from what I’ve seen, Tom Hiddleston is going to steal the show in this movie. I can’t wait to see more of Loki and Thor, plus Loki and all the other cast of characters. And don’t forget Odin’s wife Frigga, it looks like she might get a great scene to throw down against some Dark Elves.

Take a look and let us know what you think about the trailer below.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ – New Trailer Gets a Cast & Crew Breakdown

loki 2

The latest Thor: The Dark World trailer hit the other day and, if you ask me, it’s looking pretty good so far. Now, just in case you needed a little help understanding what was going on in the trailer (or are just interested in some of the behind-the-scenes chatter), some of the cast and crew of Thor 2 have gotten together and made some comments about a few of the shots we saw. Check out the images and what people had to say below.

loki 1

So, according to producer Craig Kyle, this is some sort of ultra-prison built by Thor’s great-grandpa, Buri. He also had a few words to say about its design:

While the exterior still feels very ancient and stone, the inside of these chambers have been upgraded to hold in new creatures and beasts. Across the way [from Loki], you see Marauders [rag-tag invaders of the Nine Realms] and demons.

landscape 1

Here we have the wonderful realm of Svartalheim, home to the Keebler… er, I mean the Dark Elves. According to director Alan Taylor:

I was adamant about going to Iceland [where Game Of Thrones’ Beyond The Wall segments are shot] and England to try and create the climate that I wanted the movie to have – this real geography and geology and atmosphere.

heimdall 1

And oh look! There’s Idris Elba, AKA Heimdall. Kyle had this to say about Heimdall’s presence and character development in the sequel:

Heimdall has some huge, huge scenes in this one. I think anyone who’s a fan of Idris and Heimdall is really going to get an amazing exploration of his character. Everything has been slightly evolved and pushed since the first film – it’s a different time.

group 1

And what comment barrage would be complete without Tom Hiddleston, the god of chaos himself, the almighty Loki? Apparently, Hiddleston had a great time with this one, because he had this to say:

You think, ‘Well, where next? What’s he going to do?’ What level of remorse does he have? If he does have any remorse or regret: why? Who does he feel guilty in front of, and who does he laugh in the face of? What’s his motivation? If he stands to win, what does he stand to win? So as a character you’ve got all these new motivations, but as an actor I am absolved from playing hero or villain – I’m just a firework, the live wire. And that was more fun than I can possibly tell you.

malekith 1

Here is our bad guy, the villain Malekith. Christopher Eccelston also gave his two cents on playing this FX-heavy role:

The huge challenge for me on this was the length of the make-up. I was in the chair for at least six hours, and then it would take about 45 minutes to get me into my costume and get me kitted up.

malekith 2

Of course, Malekith’s not the only baddie to be taking on Thor and his allies. There’s also that big-ass dude with the horns, better known as Kurse. Taylor had a few things to say about that guy as well:

Algrim in a way is the most impressive villain presence in the movie. He’s quite something when he turns into Kurse. Adewale [Akinnuoye-Agbaje] spends a lot of time under layers of latex and stuff, and I was so impressed by his performance, he brought so much to it. Sometimes we would do his scenes with a stuntman and the movement just wasn’t the same, and we’d go back and shoot it with Adewale because of all the bodywork he put into it. I think he deserves some attention, although he’ll be buried under prosthetics!

selvig 1

Stellan Skarsgard, AKA Dr. Erik Selvig, mentioned some stuff about his own character’s development from the events of The Avengers to Thor 2: The Dark World:

Having a god in your head for a while creates some psychological problems and I’m trying to get rid of them. I start this film in a, let’s say, disrupted mode.

battle 1

And finally, another one from Kyle, who apparently went out of his way to give some fanboys a big, fat Thor-boner with this obscure monster:

This is a little Easter egg for folks. This is a Stone Man from Saturn. In the very first issue that Thor appeared in, Journey Into Mystery #83, he fought these guys. So we basically brought them back! For the boys who have been reading a long time or know this stuff, it’s icing on the cake.

Thanks to CBM for the heads-up.
