It’s Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday again & this time I thought I would go with a Joker Theme. Everybody loves the Joker & I also thought it would be nice to do “something old & something new”. First, the “old”. This graphic was sent in by a Bat-Blog Reader who has really great taste. Why? Well, for one, He enjoys reading the Bat-Blog ( ha ha ) & two, because he loves the old Golden Age era artwork by Dick Sprang. This art shown here was a 2-page spread from some publication featuring Sprang’s awesome style. The Joker is prominently featured in the center so I thought that was enough so that it could pass as “Joker Wallpaper”, right? OK, on to the “new” background. Right now you can’t get any more “new” than the soon-to-be-released BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Video Game. This graphic, showing the Joker’s large evil grin with a picture of the Arkham Asylum building in it, is going to be the cover to the next issue of Playstation Magazine. They have a World Exclusive Story on how the Joker will be a special character you can play only on the Sony Playstation 3 Console.

Last night I got an e-mail from a friend named Wes. It looks like he has been pretty busy getting more tattoo work done! In fact he’s got an entire “arm sleeve” of work done. He sent us some really great photos showing the new work & it’s totally amazing art! Just check out the pictures if ya don’t believe me, ha ha! ( Click on them for larger images with more detail ). He now has Catwoman, The Joker, The Penguin, & The Riddler! Previously he had Batman & The Scarecrow. Dang! Wes, these are seriously awesome & very well done. I love the coloring & the clean sharpness…they’re GREAT! Thank you for taking the time to take these photos, I appreciate that. Also, please let the tattoo artist know that we here at the Bat-Blog think that he ( or she ) is a true art master! I guess I’ll shut-up now & just let the photos speak for themselves, ha ha! As a side note I would like to invite any other readers who have got some Bat-Tat work to please send us some pics too, thanks.

Longtime Readers of the Bat-Blog might remember awhile back we posted 2 Desktop Wallpapers that featured artwork by the Graphic Artist / Painter named Tom Dougherty. One of them was Poison Ivy & the other one was The Penguin. I know you guys remember “The Penguin” one because I got a lot of e-mails about it. He was done to look just like Alfred Hitchcock. It was really cool & people went nuts, ha ha! Actually most readers liked both of them very well. Anyways, Tom just did another piece of art recently with The Joker & it’s amazing! Basically it’s the Joker, looking totally insane, & on his right hand is a Batman Puppet ( Be sure to click on that graphic for a larger, more sharp, version ). The funny thing is, as soon as I saw it, I recognized the hand puppet as being one that was featured here at the Bat-Blog awhile back, ha ha. It’s a “German Bootleg Toy” of Batman and I posted a pic down below to jog people’s memory. Now, once I started to get past the whole “puppet thing” I suddenly realized that this graphic is painted extremely well. The coloring is great! The composition is wonderful. Everything about it is awesome! OK, now if you like this guy’s work then you need to check out his blog because he has a lot of artwork showing there too that’s pretty cool. There’s a LINK BUTTON down below. Plus, I think it’s neat to see what artists are up too. You know, you always have to keep an eye on them…make sure they’re now causing trouble, ha ha! ( Thanks Tom for sending the cool pic ). One last thing, if you click HERE you can see those 2 Poison Ivy & Penguin Desktop Wallpapers I was talking about, they’re beautiful!
A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named KEN, sent us these amazing photos of some custom art he recently did. And when I say amazing I actually mean extremely freakin’ cool! Ken took some plain boring white-canvas-style Converse Sneakers & made these shoes true works of ART! One shoe has graphics drawn all over it of The Joker while the other shoe is Harley Quinn. Check out the pics, they’re pretty neat, huh. I wanna thank Ken for sending these awesome photos & I know he has an amazing Batman Toy Collection so I hope he sends some pics of those too ( Ken – hint, hint ). But seriously Ken, you did a great job on these! Nice coloring, sharp lines, they’re just totally unique & clever! OK, as always I wanna extend an invitation to ALL Bat-Blog Readers who have any kind of info or pics that are Batman-related to please send them to us. Sharing the love of the character, doing fun art, & toy collecting is what this page is all about!

Besides having a lot of superheroes in the Kenner SUPER POWERS Action Figures line-up they also featured some really evil Super-Villains too! One of my personal favorites was this great figure of The JOKER! He’s wearing his classic purple suit & his weapon accessory was really great too. It was a Giant-Mallet Hammer that, if you look closely, had his face & evil grin on it, a very nice detail. The action figure also came with a special Comic Book. Well, more like a booklet. But the artwork was amazing & it was a fun story. In fact, I posted a scan of it here for you to enjoy…have fun!
You’re either playing the game or you want the game! Yeah, I’m talking about the new BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Video Game! The official launch & release of the game was yesterday & many people are saying it will be THE GAME OF THE YEAR! Sadly, I have not got to play it yet but seriously plan too. I mean, all the reviews have been very excellent…I’m pretty happy about that! While searching for alternative products in this franchise I came across these 2 extremely cool T-Shirts. One features Batman, as seen on the video game’s box cover. The other T-Shirt has a JOKER graphic where the Joker ( voiced by Mark Hamill ) looks totally crazy! If you would like to know where to buy them I have added a link button down below. While there be sure to check out some of the other Batman T-Shirts they have because there’s some other great ones too!

OK, I know, I have not had a Bat-Blog Contest in a little while but I was so overwhelmed with them for a while that I had to take a break. But the good news is a loyal Bat-Blog Reader, named “The BATFAN”, decided to very generously donate a few prizes so…WOW! HERE WE GO!! In this contest there are 2 fabulous prizes for one lucky winner! The main item is a beautiful 18 Oz. Ceramic Sculpted Batman Mug that comes with the original box, all in MINT condition! I really like the design of this thing, it’s really great quality. The handle is sort of bat-shaped like something you would be in the Batman Universe, ha ha! The BATMAN Logo on the front is embossed. I guess another way to put it is that you can “feel the logo because it is raised”. Overall it has a really great look about it & would be cool for people to drink coffee in while they read the Bat-Blog every single day, ha ha! The other great thing is that there is also a BONUS prize! Yeah, besides getting the cool mug, the winner will ALSO get a special BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Promotional Prize. It’s a wind-up figure of some chattering teeth with the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game logo printed on the top. This goofy item actually appears in the game because the Joker has special bombs he randomly places around the environment to foil Batman. During game play it’s your job, as Batman, to use your Batarang to destroy these as you come across them…very cool! This item was a special promo you could only get at the 2009 San Diego Comic Con ( SDCC ’09 ). Overall both prizes are really awesome! So, check this out, here are the rules: All you have to do is send us an e-mail with your full name & address. Plus, put “BATMAN MUG & TEETH” in the title. I would also like to know how you discovered the Bat-Blog. But telling us that info is not required, I’m just curious, ha ha! Basically, you just e-mail us your full name/address with the special title. That’s it, easy as pie!! Now, the contest will run until September 20th, 2009 & will end that day at midnight. At 12:01 we will randomly pick a winner from the list & the winner will be notified right here on the Bat-Blog the very next day ( Sept 21st ). I guess, for legal reasons, I gotta say that this event is not connected in any way to Warner Bros or DC Comics. We also pay all the postage so it’s totally free to enter. One last thing, on a personal level I wanna thank the BATFAN for donating these wonderful prizes. If the Bat-Blog is any good at all it’s because of it’s amazing readers, I really mean that. Thank you Batfan & good luck to everybody else!
- The contest is open to the general public as well as anyone currently reading the BAT-BLOG on a daily basis. Employees of the Bat-Blog and employees’ immediate family members and persons with whom such employees are domiciled are excluded from this contest.

- In accepting the prize, the winner, and any reader(s), acknowledges that the Bat-Blog may not be held liable for any loss, damages or injury associated with accepting or using this prize.

Awhile back, here at the Bat-Blog, we featured a photo of an awesome BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Custom Bat-Suit Costume made by our friend Paul. He lives in Australia. Well, recently he & a few of his friends went to a convention event in Brisbane, all dressed-up in Batman related Costumes! We have all the major characters covered: Batman, Robin, Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Two-Face, Commissioner James “Jim” Gordon, The Riddler, & one other character who’s name I forget at this moment ( Sorry, is it Anarchy? ). The great thing was they were able to get a few really wonderful photos during this time ( Please be sure to click on these pics for larger, more detailed, versions ). Now if I got the info correct, this 1st photo ( close-up shot ) was taken on the 2nd day & a couple of people changed costumes. But the other 2 pics were shot on the 1st day when they were really goofing around! The shot of them all walking towards you. That is a parody of the opening credits sequence of the JUSTICE LEAGUE cartoon ( imagine them in slow motion, ha ha ). The next one is a really famous parody that everyone should recognize right away. It’s The Beatles ABBEY ROAD Album Cover!! OK, I really love all these costume pics but the homage to The Beatles just totally cracks me up! Ha Ha Ha, it’s so GREAT! I wanna thank Paul for sharing these fun photos with my readers. Thanks Paul, everybody is gonna totally love these. I also wanna send a shout-out to all of your friends who got dressed up…you guys all look great & your costumes are awesome too…even the girl who’s character I can’t remember the name of because I’m totally stupid, ha ha! Oh man, I wish I had some of these for Halloween this year!

Here’s an awesome Vintage Family Photo from around 1989 ( or early 90’s maybe? ) showing our friend Steven & his brother dressed-up for Halloween as Batman & The Joker! Now, Steven wore the Joker outfit while his brother got to don the Batman mask. I totally love the facial expressions on both kids. They are really super-excited & you can tell that they mean business! Little Batman’s “Fight Pose” is priceless! Since Halloween is right around the corner I’m asking all Bat-Blog Readers right now to send us your Halloween memories. We’re looking for older photos ( or new ones ) that have people wearing Batman-related costumes. Even if it’s just you wearing a mask! Thanks. Oh yeah, and a special thanks to Steven for sending this wonderful photo, it’s very mush appreciated!

I just recently joined a Message Board called the “Drawing Board”. It’s for artists & illustrators to share tips or information. Plus, it’s just a great place to see a lot of neat Comic Book Style Artwork, Pin-Up Girlie Art, Portraits, Cartoon Graphics, Animation Videos, & Graphic Styles of all kind. Now, speaking of graphic style, here’s an example. They had a thread where people were invited to post their personal artwork of The Joker. They call it an “ART JAM”. Well, this thing must have been pretty popular because a TON of awesome artwork got posted. Because of space limitations I can only show a few as an example but, really, at the website there are many many more! So if you look at these you can see what I am talking about. I sort of picked some out at random. They all have their own unique style but also very different from each other. Some artists draw things very realistic, like replicating a photograph, while others have a “Cartoon Style”. I know a lot of readers of the Bat-Blog are extremely creative people who work as artists so this post works on another level & that is, you should join the “Drawing Board” to help you become a better artist. If not in your craft, then maybe just to network with other professionals. You can visit their website by clicking HERE!
