Jackman Teases ‘Days’ as Last Outing as Wolverine

wolverine1

Days of Future Past is going to be an all-star X-Menpalooza, but one of Marvel’s Merry Mutants is now suggesting that his appearance in the upcoming X-film may be his swan song to the part that made him a movie star.

Yes ma’am (or sir), we’re talking about Hugh Jackman, and although he’s been very complimentary about the experience, the actor seems to be indicating that Days will be the last time he’ll play Wolverine.

It may be the last,” he said. “By the way, it didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows? Maybe.‘”

Although it’s been a 13-plus year odyssey, Jackman isn’t feeling much in the way of regret or remorse if this does indeed turn out to be the final time he slips into a pair of Adamantium claws. “I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on. I nicked everything off the set, so Halloween, come to me and I’ll hook you up.”

In the meantime though, Jackman continues to heap praise on Days of Future Past. “I keep saying it’s like two movies in one, but with the size of it it’s really three in one,” he added. “It really is going to blow people away because of the story.

Well, you can’t fault his enthusiasm. Wolverine was a difficult role to pull off, and Jackman did so with aplomb, and it will be a sad day when he leaves the role for good, and it will be very difficult for someone new to take up the part standing in Jackman’s shadow.

More news as it develops. Days of Future Past is in theaters next summer.

Tiniest Bit of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Footage Leaks – WATCH NOW!

wolverine

My understanding is what we’ve got here is the same footage as what was screened in Hall H for FOX’s panel at SDCC, at least part of it. This very short clip, which appeared on YouTube earlier today only to be promptly pulled by FOX’s lawyers, then later uploaded to a more dubious video hosting site, is the very beginning of the footage screened at Comic Con.

Give the blurry, bald head of Charles Xavier a click in order to view the footage. Do it now! Before it’s taken down again! [Note: only click play, don’t bother installing whatever crap they try and trick you into.]

If you couldn’t make out the dialogue here’s a transcript,

Ian McKellen‘s Magneto: What’s the last thing you remember?

Patrick Stewart‘s Xavier: I had a glimpse into the past. (To Wolverine) You will have to do for me what I once did for you.

McKellen’s Magneto: You’ll need me as well… side-by-side to end this war… before it ever begins.

And cut, end of footage. There’s more to it, and it’s the entirety of the clip those at Comic Con and those at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, where this bootleg comes from, had the fortune to see.

What we can glean from this measly 40 seconds is quite a bit, though. We see Rogue (Anna Paquin), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) – now with beard! That’s how we know time’s past, guys. And of course, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. There’s the X-Mansion, upstairs and downstairs, and Cerebro. More exciting though, are the quick looks at Omar Sy as Bishop, Adan Canto as Sunspot, and Booboo Stewart as Warpath.

What else were you able to spot?

Where the footage goes from here has already been recapped repeatedly since Comic Con ended, but for a refresher here’s Screen Rant’s take.

Thanks to @pittsed_off for the tip to a working video!

All New, All Official Synopsis For ‘The Wolverine’

With FOX on the move to expand and improve their own Marvel Comics movie universe after a string of rather disappointing releases over the last few years, here is a taste of one that might actually be headed in a good direction.

We all know that the frenzied adamantium clawed Canuck will return in 2013′s The Wolverine, once again played by aussie beefcake Hugh Jackman, and we’ve had it on good authority that this time it will be a darker more serious take on the X-man. Well, here is a new official synopsis that seems to confirm that.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before. (via The Lebanese Cinema Movie Guide)

While this is just a synopsis and an actual trailer for the movie is no where in sight, it sounds like the movie might be on the right track. Directed by James Mangold, the basic plot for The Wolverine is partially an adaptation of Chris Claremont and Frank Miller‘s insanely good comic arc from 1982. A story so well done it should be hard for them to screw up.

Your move FOX.
